What is a URL slug?+
A slug is the readable part of a web address that identifies a page, such as "clean-url-slugs" in example.com/blog/clean-url-slugs. Good slugs are short, lowercase, and use hyphens instead of spaces so both people and search engines can read them easily.
How does this slug generator handle accents and symbols?+
Accented letters are converted to their plain form, so "Café" becomes "cafe". Spaces, punctuation, and other symbols are replaced with your chosen separator, repeated separators are collapsed, and any separators at the start or end are trimmed away.
Should I use hyphens or underscores in a URL?+
Hyphens are the safer choice. Google treats a hyphen as a word separator but reads an underscore as joining words together, so "clean-url-slugs" is understood as three words while "clean_url_slugs" is read as one. This tool defaults to hyphens for that reason.
