Previews use your selected timezone, but the code carries an absolute moment. Discord shows every reader the time in theirown timezone. Relative timestamps update live, and Discord always shows just the single largest unit (for example “in 2 hours”) — there is no format that combines hours, minutes, and seconds into one relative string.
Discord timestamp format codes
Every Discord timestamp uses the syntax <t:UNIX:STYLE>, where UNIX is a Unix timestamp in seconds and STYLE is one of the letters below. Omit the style and Discord defaults to f. Everyone sees the time in their own timezone.
| Style | Code | Example output |
|---|---|---|
| Short Time | <t:1699983199:t> | 3:33 PM |
| Long Time | <t:1699983199:T> | 3:33:19 PM |
| Short Date | <t:1699983199:d> | 11/14/2023 |
| Long Date | <t:1699983199:D> | November 14, 2023 |
| Short Date/Time (default) | <t:1699983199:f> | November 14, 2023 3:33 PM |
| Long Date/Time | <t:1699983199:F> | Tuesday, November 14, 2023 3:33 PM |
| Relative | <t:1699983199:R> | 2 months ago |
Discord timestamps, explained
What is a Discord timestamp?+
A Discord timestamp is special <t:UNIX:FORMAT> syntax that renders a date or time dynamically in each viewer's own timezone. Paste the code into any message and Discord displays the correct local time automatically.
How do I make a Discord timestamp?+
Pick a date, time, and timezone above, then click any format card to copy its code (for example <t:1699999999:F>). Paste it into a Discord message and it renders as a formatted, timezone-aware time.
What do the formats t, T, d, D, f, F, and R mean?+
They control how the time appears: t = short time, T = long time with seconds, d = short date, D = long date, f = short date and time, F = full date and time with weekday, and R = a live relative time such as "in 2 hours".
Can a Discord relative timestamp show hours, minutes, and seconds together?+
No. Discord has a single relative style (R), and it always displays just the largest unit, such as "in 2 hours" or "5 minutes ago". There is no format code that combines hours, minutes, and seconds into one relative string. Each viewer's Discord client renders it, so it cannot be customized from the timestamp code.
Do Discord timestamps show the correct time for everyone?+
Yes. The code stores an absolute moment (a Unix timestamp), so Discord shows every reader the time in their own timezone. You never have to write "EST" or "GMT" in the message.
Is this Discord timestamp generator free?+
Yes. It is completely free with no login or account required, and everything runs in your browser.
