X's compose box uses a larger, roomier layout than a published post. Once your post is live it renders in the Chirp font at a smaller 15px body size, with a tighter line height, a fixed-width column and shortened links. This previewer mirrors the published look rather than the compose box, so you can catch awkward line breaks or truncated URLs before you hit post.

X uses weighted counting, not a raw character count. Every http or https link counts as exactly 23 characters no matter how long the real URL is, because X wraps links with its t.co shortener. Most CJK and full-width characters (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) count as 2. Everything else counts as 1. The counter here applies those same rules and shows your weighted total out of 280.

It is a close approximation. X ships its own proprietary Chirp typeface, which cannot be embedded here, so the preview falls back to a similar system font stack (Segoe UI, Roboto, Helvetica, Arial). Sizing, spacing, colours and layout match the real post, but the exact letterforms may differ slightly.
