FAQ

Discord emoji letters, explained

How do I get emoji letters in Discord?+

Type your text above, copy either the emoji output or the :shortcode: output, and paste it into any Discord message, channel topic, or nickname. Discord turns each regional-indicator character into a boxed letter automatically, so the recipient sees 🇦 🇧 🇨 style lettering.

Why do some letters turn into a flag?+

Two regional-indicator letters sitting next to each other that spell a valid country code merge into that country’s flag. For example, u followed by s becomes 🇺🇸. Keep the "Separate letters (prevent flags)" toggle on and the generator inserts a small space between letters so each one stays an individual boxed letter.

What’s the difference between the emoji and :shortcode: output?+

The emoji output is the actual Unicode characters, so it works everywhere, including usernames, nicknames, other chat apps, and social media, because the letters are already emoji. The :shortcode: output is Discord’s text codes (like :regional_indicator_a:); Discord converts them to the same emoji when you send the message, but plain text fields that don’t expand shortcodes will show the raw code instead.

Can I use these in my Discord username or nickname?+

Yes. Paste the emoji output (not the shortcodes) into your username, nickname, or "About Me". Name fields don’t expand :shortcodes:, but they do accept the real emoji characters, so the emoji output is the one you want there.

Is it free?+

Completely free with no login or account required. Every conversion runs locally in your browser, so the text you type never leaves your device.
